Maya Khoury (She/Her)

Maya is a staff attorney at LAE who focuses on housing cases. An East Bay native, she got her B.A. in Psychology from UCLA but returned to the Bay Area afterward. Back home, Maya went to law school at UC Law San Francisco. 

Inspired by her internship at the SF Public Defender’s Office during law school, Maya developed an interest in advocating for those who don’t always have a voice. When she was matched with LAE through her LSFN fellowship, it was the first time she had considered eviction defense, but it seemed like a natural fit. At LAE as a fellow, she worked as a client advocate for a couple of months. She is passionate about caring for and representing the most vulnerable people in our communities within a system that is designed to work against them. After the fellowship, she passed the bar and became one of LAE’s newest staff attorneys in the Housing Department. 

Maya lives with her cat, Marceline, aka Marcy, who was named after a character in the animated show Adventure Time. In her free time, Maya enjoys gardening, hot yoga, Pilates, watching movies and reality TV, and spending time with loved ones.
