I'm happy that my health has improved ever since they made the repairs.

Maria Antonia

Maria Antonia came to one of our housing clinics in the Excelsior because, despite her many requests, her landlord refused to make repairs, including addressing the pervasive mold that was adversely affecting her health. LAE helped her advocate for repairs through a demand letter. As soon as the letter was sent, the landlord made the needed repairs.

I just love San Francisco. I just go out my house and I'm still around a lot of people. I'm a people person.

Paul

Paul had lived in his apartment for over thirty years when he received an eviction notice. LAE defended his eviction and kept him housed so he can continue to be the Mayor of Powell Street and watch the cable cars go up and down the famous hill.

Legal Assistance to the Elderly helped me a lot. I lived in fear. I didn't know what to do.

Irina

Unable to make ends meet on just her disability benefits, Irina returned to work part-time. Though the rules allow this, her benefits were abruptly cut, putting her housing at risk. LAE got her benefits back and protected her home.

I did not end up being evicted, because LAE helped me with all the application and the whole process.

Maggie

Maggie and her family cared for their landlord as he was dying of cancer. After his death, his heir tried to illegally evict them. Through LAE’s representation, their home was preserved and life is peaceful once more.

You are here to serve the community, to help us.

Sergio

Sergio was in his apartment for 30 years when his rent was illegally doubled, pushing it beyond his income. LAE fought this increase at the rent board and won, preserving his home.

After I connected with your office, I felt more confident and happy. I know that I can rely on LAE.

Ma

Ma had her identity stolen and was met with unpaid bills on three fraudulent credit cards. We fought for her against the credit card companies and won, leaving her free of this debt and exploitation.

LAE provided independent, impartial, expert evaluation of my situation. I am extremely grateful for this excellent resource.

Rhonda

Rhonda was living independently, when a stroke affected her memory causing her to miss her rent payment. Once she realized she tried to pay, but her landlord refused the rent and sued to evict. LAE successfully fought her eviction and helped her get financial management to ensure her rent was paid timely.

With the assistance of LAE, I'm very happy because I'm more independent.

Estela

Estela was hit by a drunk driver and lost both her legs. While she was in the hospital, her landlord attempted to have her evicted. LAE represented Estela at her jury trial and won. But her landlord retaliated against her by refusing to allow her to install an essential stair-lift. LAE filed an action, and the lift was finally installed.

I just needed somebody to advocate for me; to fight.

Gregory

Gregory suffered a stroke and was unable to attend to his financial affairs. Because of this situation, Social Security cut off Gregory’s benefits. LAE fought for Gregory and his benefits were restored.

LAE was fantastic. They don't like bullies, like the one I had to deal with. Now, I feel safer and secure.

Leonard

A new landlord purchased Leonard’s building and began evicting as many tenants as possible. When her harassment failed to drive them out, the landlord falsely accused Leonard of threatening her and filed an eviction case. At trial, LAE successfully proved she was lying. Leonard’s home was saved and the City of San Francisco eventually stripped control of all of the landlord’s known buildings away from her.

Without the great team that LAE provided, I really don't believe that I could have won my case.

Maria

Maria’s family has lived in the same apartment since the 1970’s. When her parents died, her landlord tried to evict Maria and her husband from her family home. LAE lawyers won her trial.
