John Balza is a Staff Attorney on Legal Assistance to the Elderly’s benefits advocacy team. A bay area native, John earned his J.D. with a concentration in Social Justice Lawyering from UC Hastings College of the Law in May, 2022. He also holds a B.A. in English literature from UC Berkeley.
Before joining LAE, John interned at the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office Prisoner Legal Services unit providing legal information and assistance to incarcerated and recently released individuals. Prior to law school, John cultivated his familiarity and dedication to serving the elderly and people with disabilities while working at a Skilled Nursing Facility for over a decade in various roles. He is also a notary public.
Outside of work, John enjoys writing screenplays and poetry, playing classical music, baking, and making his own ice cream.
