Larry’s Story
Our clients get amazing results.
Larry Martin has lived in his rent-controlled Castro apartment for 38 years. Earlier this year, while recovering at home from cancer treatment and heart surgery, Larry fell asleep with a running sink that overflowed and required the landlord to clean up. His landlord immediately sued to evict him. If successful, the landlord could increase rent by over 500% and Larry would be homeless. Larry called LAE for help.
Supervising Attorney Anthony Burchell successfully litigated the case. He also was able to get Larry help to clean for his apartment during recovery. This gave Larry the time he needed to get healthy while maintaining his independence and dignity. LAE’s advocacy prevented a health crisis from becoming homelessness, as it has for many of San Francisco’s seniors.
