Community Outreach Lead & Client Advocate

Sydney Gartmond

Sydney is a Community Outreach Lead and Client Advocate for Legal Assistance to the Elderly (LAE) beginning November 2023. Her story began on the East Coast where she grew up until moving to California at 16. After finishing up high school in the East Bay, she chose to attend San Francisco State University. There she served as President of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, a leadership organization that helps college students navigate young adult life. She was a member of Black Student Union, a student org that fostered black community. She also served as a Lab Manager for SF State’s Workplace Technology Lab, studying the effectiveness of technology implementation and innovation at work. After making the Dean’s List in 2019, Sydney graduated in 2020 with her Bachelors in Psychology. She continued working at a grocery store during the Covid pandemic until she was hired as a Behavior Technician, providing behavioral therapy to children with autism. Meanwhile, she developed her event management skills in various marketing and event roles including Event Coordinator with Aurice Guyton Events and Digital Marketer with startup social media company Blast. After two years in these various roles, she took her talents to LAE, delivering a style of communication that is both efficient and empathetic. Her value for dignified legal aid took root after witnessing the plight of her grandmother with dementia who lost her home in a foreclosure auction and her friend with diabetes, who is a person experiencing houselessness, almost die in her home from a diabetic coma. Sydney joined this non-profit to make a high impact in elders’ lives.

In her off time, you can find Sydney going to fun restaurants and exciting events with friends around the Bay. She also likes to cook a tasty dish!
