Grants and Communications Coordinator

Kitania Folk

As the Grants and Communications Coordinator at LAE, Kitania sends grant reports, researches and writes grant proposals, and coordinates all of LAE’s communications. Previously she worked at a small foundation called The Hawkins Project that funded and organized projects for youth writing centers across the world that use the same model as 826 Valencia in San Francisco. While working there she was the Managing Editor of Unnecessarily Beautiful Spaces for Young Minds on Fire, a photo-centric book about youth writing centers around the world that featured an introduction by Dave Eggers and Amanda Uhle.
Kitania grew up in San Francisco and attended NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study where she studied the history of social movement in Latin America. During that time, she wrote a thesis that received honors about the 2006 teachers movement in Oaxaca, Mexico.
