Keep seniors safe during COVID-19

Seniors and adults with disabilities are among those most at risk during the COVID-19 crisis.

Even though it feels like the world has come to a halt, the reality is that seniors and disabled adults still face the same legal hurdles and injustices as before. The pandemic has made it more difficult for them to access essential services. For many, it has exacerbated their feelings of isolation and hopelessness.

LAE continues to serve clients during the COVID-19 health crisis.

LAE provides frontline legal services to seniors and adults with disabilities every day. As a result of the crisis, we have transitioned to providing all legal services by phone.

Seniors pushed into early retirement are facing a sudden uncertainty about their economic future and have questions about San Francisco's so-called eviction moratorium. LAE has created a series of videos in English, Cantonese and Mandarin explaining tenants' rights during this moratorium.

Both seniors and adults with disabilities are questioning what the CARES Act means for them and what they need to do receive relief funds. LAE attorneys and staff continue to provide advice as the situation changes.

LAE is fighting for the safety of all San Francisco tenants.

LAE staff joined with other eviction defense organizations to protest San Francisco courts decision to proceed with certain eviction cases during the crisis. This is an ongoing struggle as tenants must be able to confront witnesses against them without risking their lives.
